Historic Preservation

House Histories

  • Compiled Books and Presentations

  • For realtors, homeowners, or as a gift

Every house has a story, whether it was built two years or two hundred years ago - and you never know what you might find. Starting with a history of a house’s residents (chain of title), our comprehensive house history will help to bring your house’s story to life. We can provide you with a written house history book, a frameable document or photograph, or anything else upon request to help celebrate the lives that have shaped your home.

Other Building Reports

  • National Register

  • Section 106

  • Historic Markers

In addition to house histories, we would be happy to work with you to tell the story of any building or property. We have experience with the National Register of Historic Places nomination process, writing and applying for state historic markers, and simple building history reports to fulfill any need. As with house histories, we particularly focus on Greenville County and Upstate South Carolina, but would be happy to assist with properties in other locations as well.

Cemeteries

  • Burial History Research

  • Plot Mapping

  • Grave Cleaning and Preservation

Cemeteries are an important part of any genealogical research quest, and are a central part of Staton Research. Many times, grave markers serve as the only tangible connection to the past and to a person’s ancestors. From a preservation perspective, they pose a critical preservation need and can be legally challenging regarding access and upkeep. We are up-to-date on the lastest research on cemetery preservation and documentation, and are happy to help with any cemetery-related need. Beginning in 2023, we also offer the service of grave cleaning using proper materials and careful methods. Inquire today!

Restoration and Renovation Research

  • Cataloguing Past Changes

  • Restoration Advising

As historic buildings are revitalized, there is often a need by owners, developers, and architects to get a good understanding of how the building has changed over time. Though buildings can sometimes seem unchanging, many times, buildings can take on a life of their own through years of changes and adaptations, changes in code requirements and to fit various owner’s needs. That’s where Staton Research comes in. We seek to trace a building’s history, helping to peel back the layers of time to contribute to restoration and renovation projects that make historic buildings and structures shine.
